Specialist presents Sugar Babies Only by Nikita Ares. Made up of purely works on paper, Ares has created an energetic system of dreamscapes, which oscillate between the act of mark making and the creation of vivid worlds.

A tension between entropy and harmony is evident throughout these pieces with Ares’ layering of materials adding supplemental chaos, followed by a natural balance. "Can I borrow your lighter?" has a clear starting point, which then gradually descends into a swirling harmonious mass. You’re being dipped and dunked inside Ares’ singular and incredibly distinct world, with each piece functioning as a portal from the macro to the micro, and vice versa.  

A sense of abundance emanates through the work’s crackling energy. Ares’ marks don’t ever feel calculated; they feel necessary. The velocity at which she creates her work imbues it with authenticity, facilitating in the development of an intensely original abstract perspective.

Born in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines in 1996, Ares has lived and worked in Seattle, WA since the age of 17, where she also received her BFA in Fine Art from Cornish College of the Arts in 2018. Ares has shown at: the Cornish Closet Gallery, Party Hat, Studio e, among others.
