May 2 - June 1, 2019
Opening reception: Thursday, May 2, 6 - 9pm
Specialist presents Nightcrawler an exhibition of new works by Peter Scherrer, curated by SEASON.
Peter Scherrer's latest work builds upon the dense and damp territories of his previous paintings and expands upon the frenetic energy found in his unyielding landscapes. This new, large body of work in oil creates views into fantastic worlds where night owls melt into trees while snakes hide in the branches. For Scherrer, the woods of the Pacific Northwest serve as an inspiration for the settings and for the amazing energy that is overwhelming and dreadful. Dense lines of impasto oil set a framework for the atmosphere to become a vibrating and heavy cloak over nature. Within this darkness exists a light touch and gentle humor that ultimately enlighten the works and remove all fear. Also on view will be a large woodblock print made with the assistance of the people at Runaway Press. A printed catalog by Cold Cube Press will accompany the exhibition.
