Specialist presents Multi-Armed Bandit, an exhibition of new works by Kate Ruggeri.
“Multi-Armed Bandit” is a term used in machine learning to describe a hypothetical experience of a gambler at a row of slot machines (commonly called “One-Armed Bandits”). The gambler must choose between multiple actions: which arm to pull, how many times to pull it, and whether to continue with their current machine or try another.
The multi-armed bandit refers to both Ruggeri’s diverse multi-disciplinary practice, her own visual language, and biography.
Ruggeri brings together mixed media works on paper, sculpture, and painting — to combine with her own autobiographical elements and experience in engineering. Much of the collaged material comes from her personal sketchbooks made during the pandemic, which she calls “The Books of Quar”.
