Specialist presents For the World to Come, new works by Emma Bergman
For the World to Come presents a simple question: What will become of us? Visitors to Specialist will encounter the Department of Eschatology, a performance-based institution that studies societal and environmental collapse. Audiences are asked to participate in the Department of Eschatology’s mission through a series of interactive works. For the World to Come brings an organizer mentality to an artist's practice, asking audiences to imagine a real future not limited by our current structures and experiences.
Emma Bergman (b. 1995) is an interdisciplinary artist and organizer based in Chicago, Illinois. Bergman’s installation and film practice intersects with their work in carcel-system abolition. Their recent interdisciplinary projects have shown at Patient Info (Chicago), DOC NYC and All Street Gallery (New York), and Vox Populi (Philadelphia). Bergman is a co-founder of the performance collective Call Your Mom, which for ten years exhibited work and led workshops across the US and abroad. They earned their BFA in Interarts performance from University of Michigan and their MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
